So, as some of you may know, I’ve been working on a bit of a mad project for the last couple years: a musical theatre reimagining of Final Fantasy VI, co-arranged/composed with my friend Jeff Swingle. We’ve assembled a fantastic team of writers and musicians, produced more than a half-hour of music already, and we’re going to be sharing it leading up to our Kickstarter next month.
We’ve got two beautiful songs released so far, from our Celes (Jillian Aversa) and Locke (Mike Axtell, and both can be heard on our project’s site at http://espermusical.com, along with more project info and a lengthy secret preview for newsletter subscribers.
(Consider signing up! The Impresario will get off our backs about it at last!) 😉
It’d mean a MASSIVE amount to me if you’d check it out, and if you, or anyone you care about loves Final Fantasy, musical theatre, opera, audio drama, or reimaginings of classic video game scores, I’d be so happy if you shared it with them.
Wherein the fire is the blistering Chicagoland sun. 😉
I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with J.A. over at ObsoleteGamer about my music, and I mostly appeared intelligent! You can check it out here:
In addition, I had the opportunity to offer some more nuanced takes on my work on Fossil Echo over at Realm of Gaming:
Those of you who follow me on social media know that the cat’s out of the bag now, and I had the pleasure of working with Imagos Films to bring Devolver Digital’s first ever E3 press conference to musical life.

And the score to this wonderful nightmare is here:
It was a blast to be a part of something so fantastic, and I hope you all enjoy/are not permanently scarred from watching it.
As some of you may know, Jeff Swingle and I have been working on a top-secret project for the last few months, and it’s finally time to announce it to the world and open the doors for auditions!
PROJECT ESPER is a fully licensed Musical Theatre/Audio Drama adaptation of the beloved JRPG Final Fantasy VI (or III, if you’re in the US) 😉 being produced in conjunction with the Materia Collective.
Here are a few collaborations between myself and Jeff that informed our vision for the project:
“Ovelia & Delita” (from Final Fantasy: Tactics)
“L’Histoire d’un Mercenaire” (from Final Fantasy: Tactics)
We’re gearing up to launch our Kickstarter (yes, this will be a paid gig once it’s funded!) and, as such, we’re looking for anyone interested in submitting auditions for the multitude of colorful heroes and villains of the Final Fantasy VI universe.
This audition process will focus on Voice Acting and Singing, and is open to EVERYONE, not just members of the Materia Collective. (The only hard and fast requirement is that auditionees need to be able to record their own vocal performances.)
Auditions run until Midnight PST, June 4th.
Please feel free to share this, and good luck!
Project Esper Audition Form:
Yesterday, “Almightree: The Last Dreamer” was released yesterday on iOS (Universal). It’s a puzzle platformer with a spiffy art style. I wrote the eastern-inspired orchestral score and provided the protagonist with his voice.
Here’s a trailer:
The game is on the Apple app store for only $1.99:
So far, we’ve gotten some fantastic reviews, with TouchArcade calling it, “Excellent”, and Gamezebo praising it’s art, puzzle design, and “stirring” score. 🙂
And here’s a taste of thst score:
Let me know what you think in the comments, and, if you have an iOS device, please consider buying the game!
